Risk Disclosure
Last Updated July 20263 min read
Boundless involves digital assets, public blockchains, and early-stage projects. Each carries risks you should understand before participating in a program, contributing to a campaign, or holding funds in a wallet on the Platform.
Digital assets can lose value, blockchain transactions cannot be undone, and early-stage projects can fail. Participate only with what you can afford to lose. This disclosure is a summary, not an exhaustive list. If anything is unclear, do not proceed until it is.

No investment, legal, or tax advice
Nothing on the Platform is investment, legal, accounting, or tax advice, and Boundless is not a broker, investment adviser, or fiduciary. Contributions to campaigns are not investments or securities and confer no ownership, interest, or expectation of profit. Make your own assessment and consult your own advisers.
Digital asset risk
Balances and rewards on the Platform are typically denominated in USDC, a stablecoin issued by a third party on the Stellar network. Stablecoins aim to hold their value but can trade away from it, and depend entirely on their issuer’s reserves, redemption process, and regulatory standing. Other digital assets you interact with can be highly volatile. Any digital asset can lose some or all of its value.
Transactions are irreversible
Blockchain transactions cannot be reversed, cancelled, or charged back once confirmed. Funds sent to a wrong or unsupported address are usually unrecoverable. Always verify addresses and amounts before confirming, on Boundless and anywhere else.
Smart contract and escrow risk
Program funds are held and released through on-chain escrow contracts. Smart contracts can contain defects, behave unexpectedly under unusual conditions, or be exploited. A contract failure could delay, misdirect, or permanently lose funds despite everyone acting in good faith.
Managed (custodial) wallet risk
Managed wallets are custodied by the Platform: Boundless controls the keys and signs transactions on your instruction. You are trusting the Platform’s security and operational controls. A compromise of custody infrastructure, or an extended Platform outage, could delay access to funds or result in loss. Custodied balances are not bank deposits and are not covered by deposit insurance.
External wallet risk
If you connect or pay out to an external wallet, you alone control its keys, and you alone can lose them. Anyone who obtains your secret key controls your funds. Lost keys cannot be restored by Boundless. External wallets also require their own XLM reserves and USDC trustlines to receive funds.
Crowdfunding and early-stage project risk
Campaigns and projects on the Platform are often early-stage. They can miss milestones, change direction, or fail entirely, and contributed funds may not be recoverable. A campaign reaching its funding goal is not a guarantee of delivery. Contribute only what you can afford to lose.
Prize and payout risk
Payouts depend on organizers funding their programs, results being published, and, for claim-based awards, you completing the claim, which may require identity verification. An award that is awaiting claim is not yet paid. Verification failures, sanctions screening, or organizer default can delay or prevent a payout.
Regulatory and tax uncertainty
Laws governing digital assets, crowdfunding, and cross-border payments are evolving and differ by country. Regulatory changes could restrict features of the Platform or your ability to use them where you live. Amounts you receive may be taxable; reporting them is your responsibility.
Platform and network availability
The Platform depends on the Stellar network, asset issuers, and third-party infrastructure. Congestion, outages, protocol changes, or discontinued services can delay transactions or interrupt features. Scheduled and unscheduled downtime happens.
